Australian native fish, Barcoo grunter, dam stock of fish, freshwater fishing, Barcoo Grunter- Scortum Barcoo
Size In nature grows up to a maximum size of 35cm Range Wide-spread over Central and Central Northern Australia. Water Parameters Barcoo Grunter’s require a pH of 6.8—7.2, with a GH of 50—200ppm. Temperature Their required temperature range is 20 oC - 28oCFeeding An aggressive feeder, the Barcoo Grunter prefers live fresh and frozen foods. It will readily take dry foods however. General Comments As with other “Grunters” this species becomes territorial and aggressive as it approaches maturity. It should be provided with a large tank with plenty of swimming places and hiding spaces. Juveniles (pictured above) mix well together and will live in communities of other tough fish, of approximately their own size. Barcoo Grunters are a silvery grey colour but have an extremely unusual colour pattern of black blotches, spread irregularly in varying numbers in different positions on each side of the fish. An unusual and rarely available species that takes particularly well to aquarium conditions. |
